Manaiakalani Pedagogy
The power of Manaiakalani comes from authentic audiences and this is the power of the blog - when somebody authentic comments on a kid's work it drives forward their desire to learn.
Google Forms - Puka Kukara (Jeremy)
Google forms are a really powerful learning tool that can make your Class Websites more interactive and get kids thinking. I use the self marking forms like this one to help give feedback on things straight away to kids. Being able to add in videos that help to explain ideas is also really useful in our online learning environment. But also to check in on kids' understanding such as this one . One last thing that I do is to help with classroom management such as book issuing. And we use them a lot as a whole school management for staff and student feedback as well as collecting options and career information meaning that we can look kids' information quickly.
I really like the idea of putting simple and repetitive tests, such as the PAT Listening, as self marking tests as will save loads of time.
Google Maps (Maria)
It's cool to be able to load forms onto Maps - this has power for whanaungatanga and this is really useful heading into Lockdown Learning.
This map is of our local area, Waitara, and I've developed and embedded it into the class website to help remind my students of local places as they do their Travel Writing for their NCEA Writing Portfolios - there are images to help them remember and small descriptions which act as models for their writing.
Google Sheets - (Vicki)
Some useful shortcuts and tricks for sheets:
- “Control” + “Forward Slash” - brings up all the shortcuts
- Sparklines are pretty cool for tracking individual kid's progress; use the formula =SPARKLINE(B3:M3)
Hi Hillary, it sounds like you are using a lot of digital tools already within your context. I really enjoyed google maps and look forward to exploring it more.
ReplyDeleteKia ora Hillary,
ReplyDeleteI wondered whether you would find this session particularly helpful, considering all the data you must have to wrangle with being a DP. I am glad you were able to pick up some tips and tricks that might help your workflow become more efficient. MyMaps is pretty awesome. Lots of different layers of applications there... just a pity that planning trips around the globe are on hold for the foreseeable future!
